Ohio Vax-2-School program underway | WKBN.com

COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Ohio’s newest COVID-19 vaccine incentive program was officially launched Monday morning.

It’s called Vax School 2 and is the state’s latest effort to get more people vaccinated against COVID-19. You can apply through the link here.

State data shows about 54% of Ohio’s population began the vaccination process on Sunday. Health officials hope the program will increase that number.

Starting Monday, people between the ages of 12 and 25 can apply to Vax 2 School for a chance to win one of 150 $10,000 scholarships or one of five $100,000 scholarships in n any Ohio college, university, technical or trade school, or career program.

Vax 2 School is similar to the state’s earlier Vax A Million program in that people will need to register for a chance to win.

The state also plans to expand the survey to ages 5 to 25 if and when vaccines are approved for those young people.

“I think it’s great,” Columbus resident Maureen Traverse said. “I hope the more children, if that helps convince the families of the children, if that motivates them to do it, I think the more children who are vaccinated, the better.”

“Anything you can do to get more people vaccinated, which keeps more kids in school and reduces the spread is helpful,” added Jason Cervenek.

Exact draw dates and deadlines for entering drawings have not been announced. However, the state’s health director said drawings would likely begin two weeks after the vaccine is approved for children five and older.
