Possible races for Westford Health Board, school committee in election

WESTFORD – There is early interest in municipal elections, including open seats on the health board and school board.

The election is May 3.

Board of health

Incumbents Stephanie Granger and Susan Hanly, who is also a school nurse, pulled out papers for the two open seats, each with three-year terms. Melissa Mackey, who has also criticized city and school mask policies, also pulled papers.

school committee

There are two three-year open seats on the School Council.

The outgoing incumbents are Sean Kelly and Alicia Mallon.

So far Kelly has pulled out papers, as have potential challengers Meghan O’Connell, who ran unsuccessfully last year; former board member Mark Kost, who also served on the finance committee and the capital planning committee, and Michael Tartarini.

Uncontested seats

There are two vacancies on the select committee, each for a three-year term. The two board incumbents whose seats are vacant, Scott Hazelton and Andrea Peraner-Sweet, pulled out papers.

The Housing Authority has an open seat for a term of five years; Incumbent Diane Holmes is the only candidate so far to have papers out.

Nomination forms are available at City Hall for those interested in standing for election.

The deadline for filing nomination papers bearing the signatures of at least 50 registered voters in the city is March 15, 5 p.m.
