Bilingual Senior and High School English Teachers – Early September 2022

About Us:

SCIS consists of four parts: an English Kindergarten (2-6 years old), a Bilingual Elementary Junior School (Grades 1-5), a Bilingual Second Stage (Grades 6-9) and a bilingual high school (grades 10-13). In elementary and secondary schools, about half of the curriculum content is taught in Czech and the other half in English. The maximum number of students in classes is 14 for kindergarten, 21 for elementary and 25 for secondary. We are located in a suburb of Prague with a modern, purpose-built school building, a large green playground and a nearby forest. About 80% of the children come from Czech families and 20% from various nationalities or multilingual families. We have a unique bilingual program, accredited by both the Czech Ministry of Education, Cambridge International Examinations and Advanced Placement Study. Teachers are requested and expected to use interactive and hands-on teaching, making good use of outdoor learning whenever possible.

About you:

Sunny Canadian International School (SCIS) employs energetic, enthusiastic and creative teachers who want to live in the beautiful and historic city of Prague, Czech Republic. All applicants must be native speakers of English. No knowledge of the Czech language is necessary. Preference is given to English-speaking EU passport holders and registered Czech residents.

Qualifications required

  • University degree in English or fully qualified as an English teacher

  • Undergraduate or postgraduate degree in teaching (not TEFL/CELTA)

  • Previous full-time classroom teaching English experience

  • English-speaking (level C1 accepted)

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL, ESOL, IELTS)

  • Experience in schools offering international curricula (Alberta, IPC, PYP, Cambridge)

  • Experience with Cambridge English Assessment (YLE, Key, Preliminary and First for Schools)

  • Higher education diploma or additional specialized education qualification

Detailed conditions:

  • Initial teaching contracts are for 1-2 years, with 40 days paid annual leave.

  • Weekly work hours include teaching lessons, staff meetings, collaborative planning, parent consultations, lunch, breaks and/or recess supervision and substitution as needed. Kindergarten teachers are also responsible for supervising the Morning Club or Afterschool Club one day a week. Teachers without a full teaching load may be required to fill their schedules with additional tutorials, extra lessons, or other assignments. Working hours also include attending extracurricular activities such as special events, team building, celebrations, parent meetings, and other school-related activities that sometimes take place outside normal hours. of class. Specific examples include Christmas markets, Halloween parties.

  • Health insurance (including dental care) and social benefits are paid for by the school.

  • SCIS employs an external visa consultant to facilitate work and residency visas.

  • Sick leave is compensated according to the Czech national health system.

  • Classes take a one-week trip a year in the spring. Teachers may be invited to join in directing these overnight trips.

  • Classes have one sleepover at school per year. Teachers may be invited to join in the planning and supervision of such nightly events.

  • Due to our school’s unique bilingual model and rapid growth, teachers must actively contribute to the design and improvement of programs.
