Boarding Options at Epsom International School Malaysia

3 minute read

Epsom International School offers a UK curriculum and a boarding option in Negri Sembilan, Malaysia. We asked the school principal, MATTHEW BROWN, to give us an overview of the international school in Malaysia as an option for families living in Singapore.

Epsom Malaysia is the only sister school of Epsom College, which has been voted one of the best coeducational boarding schools in the UK by The Telegraph and The Times. Malaysia International School is located just 45 minutes from downtown Kuala Lumpur and 15 minutes from KL International Airport.

WEEKDAY INTERNATION PROGRAM

Parents usually send their children to boarding schools to become more self-sufficient and independent, personal qualities that day education pathways cannot always provide. Boarders demonstrate a sense of personal responsibility that their day school peers may not develop until at least college or university age.

Students at Epsom Malaysia experience the community atmosphere on campus, the academic environment and engagement with academic staff in the pastoral setting of a UK boarding school. Parents can rest assured that their child’s needs will be met by the space, time, safety and adventure offered here.

Children of Singapore residents who wish to continue their education in Epsom Malaysia can board at school Monday to Friday and return home at the end of their school week. This allows families in Singapore to enjoy the benefits of boarding school during the week and have a great time together at weekends.

A FUTURE-READY CURRICULUM

Students educated within the UK university system have proven to be some of the most employable in the world. They are recognized as adept analytical thinkers who possess excellent communication skills.

Epsom Malaysia’s Future Ready program reinforces nearly 200 years of tradition and academic excellence with hands-on education that is culturally and contextually relevant to a growing Asia.

We provide students with a holistic school experience in small class sizes with a 1:6 teacher-student ratio. This gives excellent academic results – 73% A-star to A grades at A level and IGCSE, with entry into top universities such as Cambridge, Imperial, UCL, LSE and Stanford.

Our school promotes equal proficiency in English and Mandarin through the Mandarin English Immersion Program starting in Preparatory School. Students are encouraged to master conversational Mandarin after graduation, compared to an internationally recognized HSK certification. This is complemented by contextually relevant teaching such as the Singapore Mathematics Learning Strategy.

The school also facilitates internships in Malaysia’s most successful companies and organizations, allowing students to engage in real-world application of classroom learning.

PASTORAL AND ACTIVITIES

We have an open door policy for after-school academic and pastoral support – students have 24/7 access to on-site, fully vaccinated pastoral, medical and counseling staff. Students with an English as an Additional Language background also receive specialist transition courses as they progress through the school.

Our dynamic super curricular program focuses on the holistic development of the student which helps them to identify their sports passions. More recently, the Mouratoglou tennis program with Patrick Mouratoglou was launched. He is one of the most influential coaches in tennis and has been credited with training and developing several young rising stars including Stefanos Tsitsipas, Coco Gauff, Holger Rune and Alexei Popyrin.
