Crescent Montessori, partner of La Luz on the after-school program

Crescent Montessori School, a Montessori elementary school that educates children ages 2.5 to 6 in Sonoma, is celebrating the launch of its afterschool program. Called MAS (Montessori After School), it is a first in the school’s 27-year history.

MAS uses the Montessori program to engage children in a variety of subjects including yoga and mindfulness, clay in partnership with the Sonoma Community Center, art, dance, and Montessori gym. Hours are 3-4:30 p.m. and take place in Crescent Gardens at the Community Center. Starting in August, children not enrolled in Crescent will also be invited to enroll in MAS.

Principal and Head Teacher Persy Kreider said, “One of the goals of MAS is to provide enrichment programs that support the Montessori education our children experience during the day. Dr. Maria Montessori believed that “movement is an essential factor in intellectual growth”. Our exceptional program offers Montessori Gym or Physical Literacy; a physical education class that respects Montessori principles. Crescent Montessori is the only Montessori school in the area that offers a physical literacy program. Our MAS program keeps children active, creative, social and confident. »

Through a partnership with local nonprofit La Luz, Crescent Montessori will also award two full scholarships to children for the duration of their three-year Montessori primary program. Crescent will work with La Luz’s early education program, AVANCE, to identify interested students.

“We are thrilled to partner with Crescent Montessori to expand educational opportunities for the Latin American community and the community at large,” said Sandy Sanchez, director of programs at La Luz.

Crescent Board Chairman Kinh O’Brien said, “We want our thoughtful Montessori programs to be accessible to our entire community. Crescent’s teachers are all native Spanish speakers, and Spanish is already integrated into our Montessori curriculum. It’s a natural choice.”

The Crescent Montessori School is open for enrollment throughout the year. Those interested in Crescent’s programs should email or visit to learn more.
