- The school’s personalized pathways offer now includes aviation and STEM
- Students able to earn one year’s worth of US college credits
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates: GEMS International School – Al Khail (GIS) has become the first school in the United Arab Emirates to partner with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU), one of the most prestigious and sought-after universities in the world for aviation and aeronautics.
Through this partnership, students studying the IB Career-Related Program (CP) can now select the ERAU Dual Enrollment Program as Career-Related Study (CRS). It gives students the equivalent of one year of US university credits after successfully completing the CP and ERAU program, allowing them to enter directly into the second year of their university course.
Simon Herbert, School Principal/CEO of GEMS International School – Al Khail, said, “As the GEMS Center of Excellence for Aviation and Space, we are delighted to partner with the University aircraft Embry Riddle. The partnership is extremely rewarding for our students and provides another superb pathway that personalizes the education we provide. This puts our school at the forefront of finding opportunities for our students and graduates, while offering parents a significant discount on university fees.
Matthew Flaherty, Vice-Chancellor and Director of Asia, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University – Asia, said: “It gives us great pleasure to recognize GEMS International School – Al Khail as one of our partners in the framework of the ERAU dual registration program. We are confident that this partnership will enable students enrolled at the school to benefit from ERAU’s reputation as one of the world’s leading higher education institutions in aviation and flight education. aerospace. With this head start in teaching aviation and aerospace while still in high school, GEMS students prepare for a fulfilling career not only in aviation and aerospace, but also in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
GIS inaugurated its first cohort of CP students in September 2021, with a total of 23 students majoring in Business or Creative Media. Thanks to ERAU, CP students will now also be able to specialize in aeronautics and aviation, or in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Alternatively, they can specialize in Combined Business with one of two new pathways.
Students are free to choose from a wide variety of ERAU university-level courses leading to aeronautics, aviation, or STEM streams. They must register for four courses in the first year of CP and four courses in the second year. The courses are not run simultaneously, but are sequential, with each course lasting nine weeks. Students complete them online at school while following the rest of the CP curriculum face-to-face.
Universities place great importance on applicants who have completed the dual enrollment program, given the rigor and maturity it demands of high school students.
