Hardwick seeks a seat on the school board

As far back as I can remember, my mission in life has been to give back every moment of my life that others have given to me. June 14, I am running for the Wiscasset School Committee to continue to deliver on the promise I made to myself as a young 9 year old in foster care to keep moving forward and help lift others.

I would not be where I am today without the support of parents, teachers and school staff in the community who supported me during my childhood. Since I was in primary school, the staff made sure I had good nutrition that I didn’t have access to at home. Other community members and school staff saw me far beyond what I could see for myself as they took me to visit colleges and helped me with registrations and scholarship fees. Without the public school and the community, I would not be here today.

I have lived in Wiscasset with my family since 2007 and my child attends public schools in Wiscasset. I have been a strong supporter of the local parent/teacher association Partners in Education since 2017; most recently served on the executive committee. I have supported meaningful projects in our community such as the Feed Our Scholars Set 4 Success program. I have volunteered at both Wiscasset Elementary and Middle High School, as well as with children who need extra literacy support. I am also an active member of the local community organization, the Wiscasset Female Charitable Society.

In my 17 year career as a social worker, I have worked with veterans throughout the state of Maine and worked in local school systems as a K-12 school social worker. year. I have a Bachelor of Arts and a Masters in Social Work. I believe this professional experience will provide support to the School Council as I am adept at leading respectful and challenging conversations to work towards solution-oriented results.

My goal as a school council member will be to work with the current governing board to identify factors in the school district that may impede students’ academic, social, and emotional success. I will advocate for teachers and staff to have the resources they need to effectively educate and support students.

If elected, I pledge to approach the work of the school council in a prepared and respectful manner. I will continue to build relationships with educators and parents in the Wiscasset School District by being a visible presence at school and community events.

It would be my greatest honor to serve this community that I call home. With your vote on June 14, you will allow me to bring my passion, my skills and my experience to our school committee. Thank you for your support, I am ready to serve. To communicate with me, feel free to find me on Facebook @Hardwick4Wiscasset or by email at jodishardwick@gmail.com
