Meijer extends back-to-school program | News, Sports, Jobs

BIG RAPIDS – For the second year in a row, Meijer has announced savings of 15% on school and home office equipment for teachers throughout the year. Additionally, the retailer is extending coupon savings for a limited time to include additional categories, like kids’ apparel and footwear, through September 5.

On average, teachers’ spending on their classrooms has increased significantly in recent years. According to surveys conducted by Adopt A Classroom, teachers spent an average of $750 on school supplies out of pocket during the 2020-2021 school year, up from an average of $600 in 2015.

“Knowing how much the average teacher spent on their classroom alone last year, not considering everything else that goes into preparing for the new school year, we hope this cut will make a big difference,” said May Graceffa, Merchandising Director for School, Home, Office and Toys at Meijer. “We also recognize that, for many teachers, their class budget and family budget are one, so we’re excited to continue to offer them additional savings on categories that will make a difference to their budget.”

Until September 5, Meijer is offering an extended version of its one-year coupon that applies the 15% discount to additional categories essential to support teachers’ family budgets. These additional categories include children’s clothing, footwear and cleaning products.

Then, from September 6 until the end of this school year, Meijer will offer a 15% coupon on school supplies and home office products.

Teachers can get the discount, in the form of a paper coupon, by presenting a current school ID card to their local Meijer customer service office. Coupon can only be used for in-store purchases and certain restrictions apply. Teachers can take advantage of the coupon repeatedly by getting a new one each time they come back to Meijer.
