Muscat, Oman: The American International School of Muscat: Fact Sheet 2022-2023

The American International School of Muscat (TAISM) is an independent, coeducational day school that offers an American educational program from early childhood (three years) through 12th grade for students of expatriates living in Oman. The school year includes three terms in elementary and middle school and two semesters in high school, extending from late August to early June. The school weekend is Friday and Saturday.

Organization: The school is governed by a pedagogical school council of 10 members; five members, including the chairman, are appointed by the US ambassador.

Curriculum: The curriculum is similar to that of public and private university preparatory schools in the United States. The instruction is in English. Arabic, French and Spanish are taught as foreign languages ​​and Arabic is offered as a heritage language to Arabic speakers. Advanced Placement (AP) is offered at the secondary level. The school is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.

Faculty: In the 2022-2023 school year, TAISM has 119 staff members, including 67 teachers, including 55 US citizens, 0 host country nationals and 13 third country nationals representing the nationalities of British, French, Canadian, Thai, Spanish. , German, Bulgarian, Portuguese, Lebanese, Swiss and Indian.

Registration: At the start of the 2022-2023 academic year, the number of enrollments was 551 (EC2–grade 12), including 176 American citizens, 87 nationals of host countries and 288 nationals of third countries.

Facilities: Recent improvements to the school include a new visitor reception building which was added in August 2017 as well as security and safety upgrades in the summer of 2022. In August 2015 the school was added a separate elementary cafeteria and library and commons for middle and high schools. with each including a library and cafeteria. Facilities were added in 2002, 2005-2008, 2010, 2012 and 2015. The expanded campus includes 59 classrooms, five visual arts studios, a performing arts center with seating for 500 guests, a classroom theater, four music practice rooms, four science labs, an early childhood center, three libraries/media centers, three student common areas/cafeterias, ESL rooms, special needs rooms, two indoor gymnasiums, a competition pool, covered outdoor sports courts, four grass sports courts, three playgrounds, fitness center, nurses’ room, staff lounge and work room, offices and visitor reception building. Extracurricular activities include basketball, soccer, swimming, volleyball, and athletics in the South Asian Interscholastic Association (SAISA) league, Model United Nations, community service, theater, music, yearbook and publications in middle and high schools, as well as elementary school clubs.

finance: In the 2022-23 school year, approximately 98.8% of the school’s revenue comes from tuition and fees. Annual tuition fees are as follows: Early Years 1–2: $13,341; Kindergarten and Grades 1 to 5: $21,373; Grades 6 to 8: $25,362; and grades 9 to 12: $26,606. The school also charges an enrollment fee of $195 and a non-refundable capital levy fee of $10,233 for K-12 students. (All fees are quoted in US dollars.)
